Hi! I’m Usna Ghaffar, a 2021 graduate of the Industrial Design program at the University of Houston’s Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design. I’m extremely passionate about the design process and enjoy working through the various phases, searching for innovative solutions and creating products that compete with and challenge the status quo.

During my time as an ID student my work varied, ranging from improving home appliances and creating furniture to researching and designing for healthcare, safety, and children. Whether it be household goods like appliances and furniture, or toys and apps for children, I'm always motivated to ask questions, solve problems, and improve user experiences.
As a professional I've worked as an Associate Industrial Designer at KidKraft. The toy company based in Dallas values classic imaginative play and growth toward technology to embrace a modern-day kid’s needs. My position allowed me to work through and manage all phases of the design process for product development; from brainstorming innovative solutions, market trend research, ideation, CAD, and prototyping structural deliverables to presenting and pitching my designs. As a young professional, this experience allowed me to apply and improve my skills and bring forth some of my first designs to market.
I also loved being involved in design education and connected with my peers through working with SIDSA, our student IDSA chapter at UH, and as an ID instructional assistant, both positions allowing me to help other students while honing my own design skills. I was also the Social Media Lead of the new IDSA Houston Professional Chapter and worked to help create a strong Houston design community.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work!
